This garment has been dyed using kakishibu (柿渋, fermented persimmon tannin), an ancient Japanese technique that uses the persimmon fruit to color fabric.

The process begins with the careful extraction of juice from unripe persimmons, which is then left to ferment naturally for months until it transforms into a rich tannin solution.

After the first indigo dyeing (藍染, aizome), the garment is repeatedly immersed in the kakishibu bath and dried under the intense Japanese summer sun. Sunlight and heat are essential: as the garment dries, the tannins oxidize and bond with the fibers, layer by layer.

This long and intricate process can take up to one year and creates a one-of-a-kind appearance, veiling the deep indigo with a warm brown shade.
